The week of February 12, 2024, the Georgia Council on Aging (GCOA) and Coalition of Advocates for Georgia's Elderly (CO-AGE) hosted Senior Week at the Capitol. Governor Brian Kemp kicked off the celebration online. On Thursday, February 15th, over 350 attendees turned the Capitol green on Senior Day! Countless legislators showed to support the event.
GCOA also honored the 2024 Distinguished Older Georgian, Mrs. Mildred Schmelz. Her representative, Rep. Angela Moore, presented a proclamation to recognize her work and contributions to the community.
