The Georgia Council on Aging was established by the Georgia General Assembly in 1977 with a mission to advocate for the well-being of older Georgians. Its diverse membership is appointed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House, and the Commissioner of the Department of Human Services.

Comprised of 20 members, the Council includes 10 consumers and 10 service providers. Each member is carefully selected to represent the broad spectrum of Georgia’s aging population, ensuring that voices from minority communities, low-income groups, rural areas, urban centers, and both public and private organizations are all heard and valued.
