We had an inspiring day at the Capitol, hosting Senior Day 2025 to celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and invaluable contributions of older adults in our community. With over 400 registrants, the event was filled with engaging discussions, heartfelt stories, and a shared commitment to enhancing the lives of our seniors.
Key highlights included:
· The Distinguished Older Georgian Award Ceremony, where Carleen Cumberbatch was honored for her dedication to senior advocacy.
· Legislator interactions, allowing attendees to voice their concerns and share their experiences.
· Guided Capitol tours and opportunities to engage with policymakers.
Beyond celebration, we remain dedicated to advocating for policies that support the well-being, rights, and dignity of older adults. From healthcare access to senior housing and community engagement, we continue to fight for resources that empower our senior community.
Honoring Our 2025 Distinguished Older Georgian: Carleen Cumberbatch
The Georgia Council on Aging is proud to announce Carleen Cumberbatch as the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Older Georgian Award! This prestigious honor recognizes individuals over the age of 70 who have made significant contributions to their community and to the well-being of older adults across Georgia.

Ms. Cumberbatch has been a tireless advocate for seniors in DeKalb County for over 30 years. Her journey began when she discovered that many seniors lacked access to services unless they were homebound or indigent. Determined to change this, she founded the South DeKalb Senior Line Dancers, which not only provided an opportunity for exercise and socialization but also raised awareness for senior advocacy.

See our highlight on Facebook and engage with us by congratulating Ms. Carleen.
