Let's Look Back at the 2025 Distinguished Older Georgian Award Ceremony!

Celebrating Carleen Cumberbatch

We were proud to honor Carleen Cumberbatch as the 2025 Distinguished Older Georgian during Senior Day at the Capitol. At 93 years young, Ms. Cumberbatch has devoted more than 30 years to advocating for seniors in DeKalb County and beyond.

A retired educator with nearly three decades of service in the New York City education system, she has continued her lifelong commitment to improving resources and opportunities for older adults here in Georgia. From founding the South DeKalb Senior Line Dancers to serving on numerous boards and advisory committees, Ms. Cumberbatch’s leadership and dedication have made an undeniable impact.

Throughout her career and volunteer service, Ms. Cumberbatch has been celebrated for her contributions to the community:

  • Hidden Figures of DeKalb County Award (2017)

  • Trail Blazers Women of Distinction Award (2012)

  • Helping Hand Award for Community Service (2002)

  • Unsung Heroine Award, Metro Atlanta Coalition of 100 Black Women (2001)

Her leadership has shaped policies, improved services, and built vibrant communities for seniors across DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Rockdale Counties. Whether through her work with AARP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Georgia Silver Hair Legislature, or the Atlanta Regional Commission Advisory Committee on Aging, she has remained a relentless advocate for senior rights and well-being.
