The Georgia Council on Aging was created by the Georgia General Assembly in 1977. Council members are appointed by the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the House and the Commissioner of the Department of Human Services. The Council has twenty members, including ten consumers and ten service providers. Members are chosen to represent all older Georgians. They are selected to ensure that minorities, low-income, rural, urban and public and private organizations are included.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead
