ABOUT THE CO-AGE PRIORITY SETTING PROCESS . . .

When you join as a CO-AGE participant, your input is very valuable to the annual priority setting process. As such, you are invited to report the matter(s) that you judge to be most important to older Georgians this year.

We will advocate for the CO-AGE priorities each legislative session, we will gain insight on issues that were not chosen as priorities. If you have such concerns you may submit them for evaluation. Send your issue or concern to the Georgia Council on Aging

Some Guidelines to follow when filling out your concern form for submission and consideration by GCoA.

1. Please begin by describing the problem, providing information to support why this issue should be a top priority for the Coalition (e.g. including the magnitude of the problem), supplying any data or evidence to support your selection, and relating any suggested ways to address the problem through legislation. Be as specific as possible.
2. Please provide any research you have done, whether it is formal or informal and including any information you may have gathered about what other states have done or are doing with regard to the issue. Include the current Georgia statutes that would be affected by the legislation if you have that information available to you.
3. Please include a statement of what the legislation would do. Include what you hope the legislation will accomplish or how you expect the legislation will alleviate the problem.
4. Please include any other groups, of which you are aware, that are working on the same or similar topic for legislation.

With this information, staff will do initial research on your issue and make it a part of the issue summaries you will receive before the July CO-AGE meeting. During the priority setting meeting, you may choose to participate by presenting the issue or asking someone else to present it, evaluating the issues you hear about, and voting to decide which issues will be presented to the next Legislature as CO-AGE priorities. The issues you select will be researched and developed by Council staff.
