Funding for Adult Protective Services

Many Adult Protective Services (APS) program staff had responsibility for both Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services.  The transfer of the APS Program to the Division of Aging Services will allow caseworkers to focus solely on abuse, neglect and exploitation of disabled adults and elder persons in Georgia.

To be effective, the program must have funding in a sufficient amount to fulfill the program goals.  $2.5 million dollars will be requested to lower the current caseload of 33 cases per worker to the nationally recommended number of 25 cases per worker.  This funding will make possible the hiring of 50 additional case workers and seven additional supervisors, to identify situations of abuse, neglect and exploitation, deter the ongoing maltreatment of disabled adults and elder persons, and to prevent its reoccurrence.
