Senior Days at the Capitol 2009
February
24 – 26, 2009, the Georgia Council on Aging
and aging advocates celebrated the wonderful
tradition of Senior Days at the Georgia
State Capitol. The 3-day event was a huge
success with over 500 seniors coming from
all over Georgia to speak to their
legislators about issues they felt were
important to them. Seniors participated in
the daily legislative updates, observed the
legislature in session, and advocated for
their particular concerns. Senior Days was
recognized by Representative Len Walker in
the House on Tuesday and had an opportunity
to take pictures with and speak to the
legislators.
This year’s senior days was dedicated to the
memory of Lithangia S. Robinson, a dedicated member
of the Georgia Council on Aging who was always a
prominent advocate at the Capitol on behalf of
seniors during Senior Week. Ms. Robinson served on
the Georgia Council on Aging as a Governor's
appointee from 1994 until her passing in 2008 and
she devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents,
and energy toward the betterment of her community
and state as evidenced by her superlative service
with the Council, working to enhance the quality of
life for seniors and the disabled. She encouraged
all senior adults to find their voices and to speak
out in order to build a greater Georgia for all
ages.
